The current holder of five world records on both the roads and the track at the 50- and 100-mile distances and in races of 12 and 24 hours, Herron figuratively cut her teeth at the marathon.
A three-time qualifier for the United States Olympic Marathon Trials, her first marathon was in 2007 with a 2:48:35, fifth-place overall finish at the Eugene Marathon in Oregon.
From 2011 to 2015, Herron ran 28 of her 36 career marathons - all of which were sub 3-hour efforts, including her personal best of 2:37:14 at the United States Olympic Marathon Trials in Houston in January 2012.
Today, she is one of the top trail and ultra runners in the world.
